Saint Margaret's Church
Saint Margaret's Church was opened on the 5th of March 1972, to accommodate the growing numbers of Catholics in the east Clydebank area. Its site was originally a swamp and a burn but this was drained and leveled to produce a site for building and landscaping. Saint Margaret's architecture is austere modern. Its main congregational area does not have any supporting but obstructive pillars because of the reinforced steel lattice structure supporting the whole roof. Father McGavigan was the first parish priest, Monsignor McShane came later and was the main parish priest of Saint Margaret's for over thirty years, this was until his retirement at the age of eighty. Father Tartaglia is now the parish priest (assisted by Father Uwah from Nigeria), not only of Saint Margaret's, but of its sister parish of Our Holy Redeemer's. Saint Margaret's Hall was opened at the same time as its church and has an identical architectural style. It has been renovated and improved through the decades to be an important part of the parish, especially for its youth.
